I believe the measure of a society is in its willingness and capacity to look after its disadvantaged
Born and bred in Northern Ireland I have proudly called Australia home for the last 40 years.
In that time I have had an intriguing journey through the Health and community sectors working in a wide range of roles
I trained as a Psychiatric Nurse and witnessed the closing down of the old institutions and the move into the community. I supplemented my Mental health nursing with qualifications in general nursing and have used both in various roles such as acute inpatient mental health, community case management, intensive community care, mental health support programs, AOD and Aged Psychiatry to name a few. Mixed in with these I have dabbled in leadership and management however my real passion has always been hands on work with clients.
I have been training in Mental health, AOD, Community Services and other areas for close to 10 years now and have found it to be one of the most satisfying and meaningful roles in my career.
I strongly believe in social justice and that the measure of a society is in its willingness and capacity to look after and care for its disadvantaged. The chance to train, inspire and equip the next generation of workers is indeed a privilege and an honour.
