What does an online mental health course cost?

Cost is one of the first questions people ask before enrolling, and the answer depends on two things: the course level, and how you choose to pay. Here’s how mental health course fees are structured at Hader, and what else to factor into your budget.

What mental health courses cost

Fees rise with the level of the qualification. As a guide, Hader’s nationally recognised mental health courses start from:

  • Certificate IV in Mental Health: from AU$48/week on an interest-free payment plan.
  • Diploma of Mental Health: from AU$77/week on an interest-free payment plan.

Weekly payment plans spread the cost so you’re not paying the full fee upfront. There’s also a discounted upfront option if you’d prefer to pay in one go, and the team can walk you through both.

What to factor into your budget

Beyond tuition, it’s worth budgeting a little for the practical side of study:

  • Placement essentials: checks like a Working with Children Check and police check, which most support roles require anyway.
  • Everyday study costs: reliable internet and a device, since the course is delivered online.

There are no campus or travel costs, which is one reason online study is often more affordable overall.

Funding worth asking about

Depending on your situation, you may not pay the full sticker price. Government subsidies (which vary by state and eligibility) and employer or job-seeker support can both reduce what you pay. These change over time and depend on your circumstances, so the best step is to talk to the Hader team about what you qualify for. For a fuller picture of funded study, see government-funded mental health courses.

One thing worth knowing: Certificate IV courses aren’t eligible for VET Student Loans at any provider; that scheme only covers Diploma level and above. So for most entry-level mental health study, an interest-free payment plan is the practical way to spread the cost.

Next steps

If you know which level you’re aiming for, the Certificate IV in Mental Health and Diploma of Mental Health pages list current fees and payment options. Not sure where to start? The pathway guide explains which qualification fits which goal.
