To ensure that learners can fully participate in the course and meet all requirements, the following entry conditions apply:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or hold a visa with full work and study rights.
- Have completed their education to a level which is equivalent to an Australian Senior High School Year 12 or successful completion of a Level 4 literacy & numeracy assessment or has completed an AQF Diploma level qualification or higher.
- Be capable of completing 160 hours of work placement in a suitable facility
- Successfully complete an ACSF LLN test at the required level (in reading, writing, and numeracy)
- Have sound computer skills, including:
- Ability to navigate software systems
- Intermediate use of Microsoft Word (formatting, tables, editing) to complete assessments
- Have access to a laptop or desktop computer with a reliable internet connection to complete online modules and attend virtual Zoom classes
- Have a valid Working with Children Check (or equivalent) prior to placement.
- Hold a valid Police Check (or be willing to obtain one before placement)
- Have completed any required immunisations, including COVID-19 and flu vaccinations, depending on the placement facility’s policy or government health guidelines
- Complete a Pre-Training Review interview (via phone) to confirm eligibility and readiness to undertake the course.

The assessment is conducted using a combination of realistic workplace tasks, projects, knowledge tests, case studies and practical demonstrations. The following provides a brief explanation of the assessment methods that are to be applied: Written tasks; Case Study; Practical Activities; Demonstration and Role Plays.
What is the Dual Qualification: CHC53315 Diploma of Mental Health and CHC53215 Diploma of Alcohol and Other Drugs?
This course is a nationally recognised dual qualification that prepares learners for advanced practice roles within mental health, community and alcohol and other drugs services.
The dual diploma reflects the complexity of supporting people with co-occurring mental health and substance use needs. Learners build advanced professional judgement, evidence-informed practice, and recovery-oriented capability to achieve meaningful outcomes for individuals, families, and communities.
What qualification or recognition will I receive?
Upon successful completion of all required training and assessment components for the Dual Qualification: CHC53315 Diploma of Mental Health and CHC53215 Diploma of Alcohol and Other Drugs, learners will be issued the following:
- A Certificate confirming successful completion of the qualification; and
- An Academic Transcript outlining all units of competency completed.
These documents officially confirm the achievement of a nationally recognised qualification, issued under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). They're acknowledged across Australia and valued within the youth work, mental health, alcohol and other drug and community services sectors.
The Hader Institute of Education will issue these documents within 30 days of the final assessment, provided all course requirements have been met and tuition fees have been paid in full.

I’ve been working in Community Services for the past six years. I got into this work because I love helping people, not because of my studies. When I finally decided to study, I spent a lot of time looking for the best option that would fit my life. I was working full-time as a youth worker, married, and had a newborn at home.
