Online Leadership and Management Courses

Leadership and management courses

Leadership and management courses teach you to lead a team, manage people’s performance, and run operational plans. Hader Institute of Education (RTO 45162) offers two nationally recognised qualifications in the field: the BSB40520 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management for new and frontline leaders, and the BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management for existing team leaders and managers. Both take 12 months online, with a live trainer-led class every week.

Both follow the same entry steps. Choose by the role you hold now and the one you want next.

Our learner support team checks in with you every month, and our learner support page sets out the study and wellbeing support we offer and how to reach it.

What does “nationally recognised” mean?

Both courses lead to a nationally recognised qualification. Each is a current qualification listed on training.gov.au, the National Training Register, with its own national code, and only a registered training organisation with that qualification on its scope can issue it. You can look up BSB40520 and BSB50420 yourself.

Some leadership programs aren’t nationally recognised. They can still teach useful skills, but they don’t lead to an Australian Qualifications Framework qualification or a Statement of Attainment. Before you enrol anywhere, look for the national code and the Nationally Recognised Training logo.

Can I get it free or government funded?

Places at Hader are fee-for-service; none are state-subsidised or Free TAFE places. A Certificate IV isn’t eligible for a VET Student Loan at any provider. The Diploma can be paid for with a VET Student Loan at an approved provider, but Hader isn’t one, so a loan isn’t available for either course here.

If you’re working and pay the course fees yourself, they may be tax-deductible as a self-education expense when the study maintains or improves the skills your current job needs. The ATO or your tax adviser can confirm this for you. Our team can talk you through payment options.

Where it can take you

These are the roles each course is designed for. A qualification gives you evidence of your skills; the job itself still depends on the employer.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Which leadership qualification suits my role?

How long does a leadership and management course take?

At Hader, the Certificate IV and the Diploma of Leadership and Management each take 12 months: 48 weeks of scheduled classes plus a 4-week study break. Plan for about 26 hours of study a week. You set the pace outside the weekly live class, and if you need more time, you can apply for an extension with no additional fees.

Can you study leadership and management online?

Yes. Both courses are studied online. You join a 3-hour live trainer-led class on Zoom each week and study in our online learning platform between classes. Assessments are written tasks, case studies, projects, and role plays.

Is there a work placement?

No. Neither course has a work placement. Career support comes through our Job-Ready Program.

Can my experience count?

You can apply for recognition of prior learning (RPL), an assessment of the skills you already have against the course units. If you hold matching nationally recognised units, you can apply for credit transfer. We’ll talk you through both before you enrol.

Can an employer pay, or enrol a team?

Yes. An employer can pay for a learner’s course in either qualification, and we can invoice them directly. We also enrol teams. Each person still completes the LLND assessment and a Pre-Training Review before enrolling. Contact our team to discuss what you need.
