The CHC50325 Diploma of Child, Youth and Family Intervention is a nationally recognised qualification for people who want to support children, young people, and families through some of the hardest moments of their lives. You’ll learn to assess complex needs, coordinate case management, and work alongside families experiencing vulnerability, trauma, or crisis across residential care, child protection, family support, and out-of-home care settings.
It’s the next step up from a Certificate IV. Where a Cert IV gets you into frontline support, this Diploma (AQF Level 5) builds the case-management, service-planning, and professional-practice skills that lead to senior and coordination roles.
Through this qualification, you’ll learn to:
- Deliver person-centred support tailored to the needs, safety, and circumstances of children, young people, and families.
- Work legally and ethically within child, youth, and family intervention settings, applying the relevant legislation, policies, and professional boundaries.
- Respond to trauma, crisis, attachment difficulties, and family violence using evidence-informed approaches.
- Assess needs and coordinate case management, and contribute to service planning and delivery.
- Practise in a culturally safe and inclusive way, including respectful engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.

Graduates of the CHC50325 Diploma of Child, Youth and Family Intervention work as Family Support Workers, Case Workers, Youth Workers, Residential Care Workers, and Out-of-Home Care Workers across the child protection, family support, and community services sectors. I’ve been working in Community Services for the past six years. I got into this work because I love helping people, not because of my studies. When I finally decided to study, I spent a lot of time looking for the best option that would fit my life. I was working full-time as a youth worker, married, and had a newborn at home. I couldn’t go to face-to-face classes, so studying online was my only choice.I’m over 40 and hadn’t studied in more than 20 years, so starting again was really hard. Step 2: Assessment
Take a short Online Literacy and Numeracy Quiz to assess your current skills and ensure the right level of support throughout your studies.
Step 3: Pre-Training Interview
Join a quick Orientation Call with our team to confirm your eligibility requirements, availability, and acceptance into your chosen course.
Step 4: Acceptance
Once accepted, you’ll receive your Letter of Acceptance along with your login details to access our online learning platform and commence your studies.
Course Fees and Payment Options
To ensure that learners can fully participate in the course and meet all requirements, the following entry conditions apply:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or hold a visa with full work and study rights.
- Have completed a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment via the LLN Robot platform and met the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) Level 4 standard prior to enrolment.
- Have sound computer skills, including:
- Ability to navigate software systems.
- Intermediate use of Microsoft Word (formatting, tables, editing) to complete assessments.
- Have access to a laptop or desktop computer with a reliable internet connection to complete online modules and attend virtual Zoom classes.
- Have a valid Working with Children Check (or equivalent) prior to placement.
- Hold a valid Police Check (or be willing to obtain one before placement).
- Complete a Pre-Training Review interview (via phone) to confirm eligibility and readiness to undertake the course.
- Duration: 12 months
- Delivery Mode: Online and blended, combining live trainer-led sessions with flexible self-paced study so you can balance work, family, and your studies.
- Includes realistic workplace tasks, case studies, scenario-based activities, demonstrations and role plays, written tasks, and knowledge questions.
At Hader Institute of Education, learners are supported by our trainers and a dedicated Learner Support Officer. Support includes:
- Weekly live Zoom sessions with your trainer.
- One-on-one mentoring sessions monthly via Zoom or phone.
- Trainer support with responses within 72 hours on business days (Monday to Friday).
- Monthly outreach calls from the Learner Support Department.
- Employment assistance through our Job-Ready Program.

The Diploma (CHC50325) sits one level higher (AQF Level 5) and adds the case-management, service-planning, and professional-practice skills that lead to senior and coordination roles. If you’re new to the sector, the Cert IV is a great starting point; if you already have some experience, the Diploma helps you step up.
Does this Diploma include a work placement?
No — the CHC50325 Diploma of Child, Youth and Family Intervention doesn’t include a work-placement component. If you’d like a qualification that includes supervised practical experience in a real workplace, the CHC52025 Diploma of Community Services is worth considering. You’ll still graduate job-ready: every learner has access to our Job-Ready Program for career support, including help with resumes, interviews, and finding work.
Is this Diploma government funded, and can I use a VET Student Loan?
Hader Institute of Education isn’t on the VET Student Loans (VSL) approved provider list, and our places aren’t government subsidised, so government-funded options like Free TAFE or state subsidy programs don’t apply to study with us.
